These old planks are part of the furniture project I mentioned in the last post. I've got all the parts now, just need to get building.

the tip shop (again!)

The tip shop: it's where stuff comes from.

I've been to the tip shop four times now, since my first visit which was not quite two months ago. I have been looking for some specific things for projects around the house, but to be honest I also quite enjoy the exciting possibility of finding other stuff while I am there.

I've noticed the 'stock' in some sections turns over really quickly, meaning there is always new stuff to rummage through, which increases the feeling you might stumble on a gem. Also, I've decided Sunday is the best day to go. Saturday is too busy, and the time I went on a week day was a bit weird - it seemed to be full of people who hang out there, the prices of everything seemed to go up, and there was only one staff person on which made it difficult to get items priced and pay for them. But Sunday is a good mix.

I've been buying bits and pieces for a furniture project I have been thinking of, and last weekend I got a book case for $5. Unfortunately I don't have room in my house for any new, big furniture, but I am always seeing beautiful things there I would like to take home. If you are in the market for second hand furniture, you have to go there. Or if you need building supplies, garden stuff.... golf clubs... pretty much anything you can think of... you will find it!

birthday!

These pictures a really old because my birthday was like a month ago, but I was totally impressed with my friends and family's ability to not only co-ordinate their gifts and wrapping to match, but to get me such great things that I really loved. Thanks everyone!

winter colour

That's better! Colour! A few random scenes from home: a purchase of nice mugs from Freedom; bookcase; what came out when I changed some cushion covers over, it reminded me of Place des Anges; marigolds from the garden of the Perpendicular Pumpkin; experiments with cheap spoons from Coles and spray paint (can you do that? what happens when you wash them?); a painting; my fridge; watering can; lemons; winter washing - yes those are all coloured tights that I have been wearing, yellow makes me look like Big Bird; more marigolds.

winter in Perth

Brrrr, this is what winter looks like in Perth - clear blue skies, bright light, strong shadows. Yes, that woman is wearing a sleeveless top. It's sharp and crisp. But I'm sure it's some terrible effect of climate change that it never rains any more.

grey

Hi there! This is the first post in a little while, I know. I've just finished a rather large project at work which ended up taking up a lot of my time and brain space. My skillz are in demand from many directions. But its done now, so normal programming should resume here.

As well as being busy I've been a bit blahhed out by this winter. How bl**dy cold is it in Perth? The days are sunny and lovely, but the super cold nights are driving me a bit nuts. Part of the problem is I bought an insufficient heater. It works well when its only a little bit cold, but not so well when its very cold. I don't want to go out and buy another one, that seems like a waste, so I've been sitting there all rugged up in many layers, being cold, and that reminds me of when I was poor (at uni) and I had to wear a beanie inside or whatever, which is not nice. I've been trying to decide if I can stick it out, or if I need to just admit failure and go buy another heater. I'm still unsure.

Anyway, thank you to my friend K who was the first to comment along the lines of "hello, where have you been?" and make me actually get around to getting online and actually post something! I've not been taking a lot of pictures lately because my mind has just been elsewhere, but there is a little backlog to put up which I will endeavour to do over the next few days.
