black, pink & blue

Same building as the last post, but different colours and Creepy leaves, my favourite.

black, red & white

This is the building on the corner of Milligan and Roe Streets, which I think is the office of Artrage or at least their storage space. I like taking photos of things that will disappear one day, capturing things as they are now but won't always be. I think this building will be painted over sooner or later. It makes me happy to have photos of it.

That's me in the middle there, the non gender specific blob person on the left with a hammer and a cross through them, who is very unhappy because they are attempting to build a piece of Ikea furniture alone, and did not invite another gender neutral blob person with a pencil behind their ear over to help. Probably about five times I got so fed up I just lay on the floor next to the wretched thing, contemplating giving up and calling someone not just with a pencil behind their ear but with the patience and drive required to see these things to the end. But perhaps out of spite towards the unhappy blob person in the picture, and with some kind of fierce determination saying yes I can do things by myself you know (said to no-one in particular) I powered on and finished the damn thing. Not cheating. Not ending up with spare pieces or wobbly bits. Properly finished. And very proud of it.

My mum came back from a holiday in Malaysia last week, and brought me all this cool stuff from a chinatown somewhere. I especially like the big red tray. Also last week I spray painted some metal bowls I got from the op shop. Definitely easy for a quick, bright effect. Its been cloudy and raining a little bit for a few days, which is... weird... but its great that its not so hot and I can keep the windows open and the blinds up. Oddly, it feels like spring, because everything feels fresh and bright and colourful, but technically its autumn... weird!

A strange thing happened today... it rained! True story.

Also, I put some photos in the Poppytalk Spring Colours flickr group, and one got selected as a favourite to be put on the blog. Sweet! Check it out here.

Gone! This wall disappeared this week, behind a big lump of concrete that is going to be the wall of some new apartments. I took this photo a few weeks ago, when they were getting the site ready.

This weekend just gone I abandoned my mission to sort out all my vintage clothes. A project I started in the xmas holidays. Yep, total fail. Over the years I have accumulated a whole spare wardrobe of vintage clothes, dresses mostly, that I don't really wear any more. I bought them all back when you could get stuff in op-shops, kind of pre the explosion of vintage dress shops. There was even this insane place called Windsor Wiper Sales (perhaps it still exists?) that sold piles and piles of second hand clothes, all for one dollar each. It was like some weird dream. This was also pre everything being on the internet, and they didn't advertise themselves, you had to ring them up and ask when their next sale was. Then you'd go along, line up, get given a big plastic bag in exchange for a gold coin donation, and go nuts! I think most of it was actually stuff that had been rejected by op shops, for buttons missing or other minor crimes. It would all arrive in huge bales that they'd slash open onto trestle tables, and you would have to seriously rummage through it all. I was a broke uni student and I'd come home with a bag full of 20 different items for $20 and be so completely stoked.

But anyway... I used to wear some of this stuff, other bits I used as fabric to make stuff, other bits I just enjoyed owning. These days though, while I still like owning it, it does take up a whole wardrobe (and this is not counting the cupboard full of bags, yes, seriously a cupboard full) and I very rarely wear it. Over xmas I pulled the whole lot out with the intention of trying it all on, and sending most of it on its way, either back to the op-shop, or perhaps to sell at a vintage market or something. But it was all a bit hard. I realized I really liked it all still, and of course might want to wear it one day... so it all sat in a giant pile. A too hard pile. Until last week when we had some slightly cooler weather and I realized my doona was at the bottom of the pile. And also I would quite like to have the spare room back to some kind of functional state. So I packed the lot up. Back into the wardrobe!

Gosh, this is new! Yes its black and white photos. Sure, its a blog about colour... but hey, things change. I don't do b&w much, colour is just too exciting. But sometimes it just really works. So I have made a new tag/category, and may put some up from time to time. Thanks again you two for being such good models.

As promised, here are some photos of my friend Susannah, and her horse Shadow. You can see why it was hard to choose, they were both such good looking models! I really enjoyed taking these photos. To be honest, horses make me a bit nervous, well maybe not anymore because Shadow was so friendly. He is only young, and found it hard to stand still for long - well who would blame him? But he coped very well. I enjoyed seeing how much they are buddies. Having only ever been around dogs, I did not know horses and humans could get on in the same way. So thank you both of you for being great models and letting me take your photo!
