driving home from carnamah a huge, nearly full moon came up. it was a pretty awesome sight.

well after that minor drama yesterday, here's some photos from the town of carnamah. i was lucky that the sun was just going down, so the light was really nice. the main street has quite a few cute buildings, and a hotel which is a real mish-mash of styles. it was very quiet. just a few dogs barking and kids playing.

am mighty relieved the problem with my pictures was resolved yesterday. it was just a tiny thing, a wrong setting that i had been playing with, but it threw me into a world of helplessness.

despite having no dramas with this blog for a whole year, and very cleverly (i thought) figuring things out, learning how to do new stuff, i was suddenly stumped and desperate for someone else's help. someone who knows what the hell they are doing! someone smart and nerdy.

in the end, the solution was as i suspected, but i'd just been too scared to do it in case i stuffed things up worse. i posted my problem on the blogger help forum, and someone replied with a very blunt one-liner (thank you!). i suspect they think i was stupid. but having them give the answer gave me the confidence to do it. and it worked. phew! i'm not sure if the lesson learned is a) never touch any settings on your blog because you clearly have no idea what you are doing and could loose all your work or b) go on take a stab at it because you might be right after all... you might be the smart and nerdy one. confusing!

problem solved

phew!

someone on the google help forum told me how to fix it. it was related to the privacy setting as i suspected.

normal service shall resume shortly.

help!

eek!!! technical problems!

my images have all gone walkabout, yet they are still in the picasa album, i haven't accidentally deleted them or anything... i was playing about with the privacy settings, but have put them back to what they were and it didn't fix the problem.

i've posted a question on the google help forum, not sure if i will get an answer.

can anyone help??

please!

on the drive to carnamah the other day, we stopped so i could take some photos of the canola fields - oceans of them! going in this direction (pretty much north) i mostly saw wheat and canola, and a few sheep. its a good time of year for long drives, sunny but not too hot yet. was a good chance to play around with depth of field settings. we were listening to coldplay (driver's choice, not mine, they make me miserable) and about 5 minutes after i took these that song about yellow came on. goes something like "and it was all yellow..." and i was like yes! it is all yellow!! yellow madness. yellow canola dreams for days.

greetings from carnamah, a town (pop'n 400) three and a half hours out of perth. well i'm not there anymore but i was on tues. here's a map. i was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. well, it could be worse, there are far more isolated parts of wa, but it was enough for me.

was lucky enough to conclude work related matters just as the sun was setting, so went for a little wander down the main street. well, the street really. got some good photos, more soon.

here's the first few pics from day one with my new camera... just a few snaps around the house. there's so much to learn/remember about an slr. and its digital. even more to learn. i don't really like the program that came with it to download/edit photos and am tempted to just keep using windows whatever is on my computer. it would help if i read the manuals i guess, but that's just not how i roll. when i get some time, i will study!

so... i bought a new camera yesterday! it was very exciting. so far have taken about 100 pictures of the dog, and then have photographed everything in my house, because pictures of even just a jar of pens or whatever were coming out so awesome.

i used to have vaguely decent cameras, years ago, when i used to work as a photographer, but i had drifted out of that career and went to do other things. then digital happened, and i got a little point and shoot (a minolta dimage, which has been brilliant) and my "good" cameras were kind of consigned to a box under the bed.

i'd been lusting over digital SLRs for ages. when i took the first picture this morning i was nearly overwhelmed - the solid feel of it, the clunkiness almost, and then the picture on the (huge) screen - the depth of field was just as i'd been dreaming about. sigh.

haven't actually got any pics from the camera to the computer yet, that's phase two. for now i am just going to keep wandering around taking pictures of everything i can, and hopefully will be able to share some soon.

(these pics aren't from the new camera, or the minolta for that matter. they were taken on beaufort st a few weeks ago, on a pentax).

this was taken in that shop empire, that i was going on about here. i would love to have something like these giant bird cages in my house, but don't really have anywhere to put them... i'll have pretty much anything from that shop. and as i said before i also want to move in and convert it to my headquarters/house/studio where i would wander around, make stuff, take photos, and spy on passers-by. considering i am currently debating what to do when i grow up that sounds like the basis of a pretty good life plan. move into old warehouse on beaufort street... quit job... makes lots of money doing... something... but what? hmmmmm.

this is the J-shaped sculpture outside the art gallery. i don't know anything about it. that's kind of boring isn't it? sorry.

although its raining today here in perth, it certainly feels like spring is on its way. i took these last weekend. i can't wait for the warmer weather!

happy friday everybody!

as well as painting the steps, they've turned the empty art gallery pond into a "wetland" and planted an "orchard" at the cultural centre. see here for EPRA's plans. its all a little half-baked at this stage, but i like the concept. hopefully it will look good down the track.

i heard they had painted the steps at the cultural centre, so went to have a look on the weekend. its cute! very colourful. i like the idea they could change the whole colour scheme when this one gets old. for now, it suited my weekend mood very much. sunny days, candy colours.

the shells are from empire homewares, same as the previous post, and the mosaic is outside some shops a little further up beaufort street. i'm loving this shade of blue at the moment.

taken in empire homewares, beaufort street. their website is taking longer to find than i have patience for, so i won't be crediting them with a link. it could be this website here, but its too annoying to get any information out of for me to be sure. anyway... despite this web-related annoyance i really love this shop. its some kind of old warehouse, the light is great. i'm not sure i can afford anything in there but its certainly nice to look at, and if i was a millionaire i would buy the building and move in. they could leave some of the furniture when that happens, i wouldn't mind. they could leave this mirror for sure.

this could be my favourite from the day.

hmmm... what's going on here?

i'll start with the red arm chair... it's mine. my friend suzanne put the call out for a red arm chair for a music video shoot as part of her waapa studies... i lent her the chair and got to have a look at the shoot, which was out near bibra lake. smoke machine, fake blood, an angel who has lost her wings. i'm very curious to see how it turns out!
